Shirley Netteberg
Shirley Mae Netteberg, age 69, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 20, 2007, due to respiratory failure. She was at her home surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born on April 9, 1937, in Havre, to Wilbur and Kathleen Birr. The family moved to Whitefish when she was an infant, where she graduated from Whitefish High School and lived her entire life. She was proud of being a breast cancer survivor
She married Donald Slaybaugh in 1956, and they had three children. Shirley's second career after raising her children was as a purchasing agent for 12 years at the Montana Highway Department.
Shirley married Ole Netteberg on Aug. 29, 1987. She was the "Shir" in Shirno Cabinets for many years and owner of Old World Cabinets up to the present time. Her main job in life, among many, was to raise her children and grandchildren.
Her hobbies included Ole, gardening, bowling, painting, traveling and spending as much time as possible following her grandchildren's lives. She loved nothing more than watching a ball game, school play or concert.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Miller; her sister-in-law, Diane Birr; a nephew, Douglas Birr; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ole Netteberg, at the family home in Whitefish; her father, Wilbur Birr and wife Betty, of Spokane, Wash.; sons Kevin Slaybaugh and wife Sherri and children Jessica and Jacob, of Whitefish; Kendall Slaybaugh and wife Yvonne and children Guy and his wife Joanie, Jerod and Daniel, of Whitefish; Olaf Netteberg and wife Kay and children Matt, Gunnar and Kale, of Nevis, Minn.; daughters Lisa Mittone and husband Brett and children Danielle, Tyler, Nicole and Joseph, of Lees Summit, Mo.; Brooke Lizarraga and husband Juan and children Kallie, Maya and Mason, of Prior Lake, Minn.; brother Dallas Birr and family, of Bothell, Wash.; sister Pam Staab and husband Randy and family, of Spokane, Wash.; and brother Jerry Birr and wife Sue and family, of Spokane, Wash.
Funeral services took place March 24, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitefish. Burial followed at the Whitefish Cemetery.
