Levy passes

| May 9, 2007 11:00 PM

Now it's up to the state Legislature.

School District 6 voters passed a $241,395 levy Tuesday by a 634-543 vote margin.

About $75,000 of the levy would go toward all-day kindergarten. The remainder was to fund existing programs. But the future of full day kindergarten now hinges on what the state Legislature does in the next few days.

The Legislature failed to pass a budget in regular session and is expected to get a deal completed as it enters a special session starting today.

If full day kindergarten is funded, the district will collect the entire levy. If it isn't funded, the district will collect just under $174,000 of the levy amount.

In Deer Park, a building fund levy and a technology levy both failed.

The $50,000 building fund levy failed by just two votes, 68-66, while the technology levy failed by 75-59. Ginny Weaver beat Gary Anderson 65-54 for a trustee spot in the election.

All election results were still unofficial as of presstime.
