It is safe to say the Bigfork High School girls’ tennis team had a good weekend.
The Vals swept the Columbia Falls Wildkats 7-0 in varsity action and lost the one junior varsity match played.
Bigfork’s No. 1 singles player Breanna Hughes fought for her 7-5, 6-3 win against Sarah Marcille, while No. 2 singles player Linda Xin remained undefeated. She blanked the Kats’ Stephanie Raymond 6-0, 6-0. Jen Wirth and Ariana Shults also won their singles matches. Wirth defeated Charli Dobson 6-0, 6-0 and Shults beat Katie Newman 6-0, 6-0 as well.
Lisa Kelecy fell to Raymond in the JV match. Kelecy and Raymond took it to three sets. Kelecy won the second 6-3, but lost the first and third 3-6 and 2-7, respectively.
The Bigfork doubles teams recorded their wins with good net play and serves.
Quindee Averill and Roxy Thurman won their No. 1 doubles match against Chelsey Wilson and Jessica Ferretti 6-3, 6-2. Jade Bosic and Kelly Deaton won 6-3, 6-3 over Carrie Hopkins and Michelle Gronquist.
Cassie Keller and Nicolette Peterson teamed up in the No. 3 doubles spot for what Keller called “kind of an easy match.”
“We got our serves over and were hitting our returns back,” Keller said. “Columbia Falls made some mistakes.”
Keller and Peterson, who played doubles off-and-on last season and earlier this season, won 6-1, 6-0.
“It was fun. We keep it interesting,” Keller said. “It’s been a long season but the team’s been doing well so it makes it go by fast.”
The Vals’ regular-season will soon be over, as the Vals host Polson and Whitefish May 12 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
