Lady spikers win two conference sets

The Lady Bulldog spikers had another good week in conference play, sweeping both Bigfork and Ronan to improve to 3-0 in Northern Class A volleyball action.

Whitefish 3, Ronan 0

On Saturday, Whitefish hosted Ronan at Whitefish High School. The Bulldogs won all three matches, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13.

The final match was close only at the beginning when it looked as if Ronan might rally. However, Ashley Ferda and the Bulldogs put it away.

"We didn't come out with a lot of intensity," said head coach Jackie Fuller. "I felt Ronan did a great job controlling the tempo of the game. They are a much improved team."

Fuller said her squad still has work to do on defense, and she made a point to mention that although Whitefish is undefeated in conference play, she believes that every team in the state has a chance to compete for the state title. Fuller said she doesn't want her squad to overlook anybody.

Ferda ended the day with 13 kills. Brielle Menegazzi had 10 kills, and Molly Filipek had three aces.

"[Filipek] has always been a great server," Fuller said of her sophomore. "She put a lot of time into the offseason preparing for this."

On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Bigfork to take on the Valkyries.

Ashley Ferda had 11 kills and 16 digs as the Bulldogs swept 25-16, 25-21, 25-8.

Whitefish had 32 kills on the day, and Brielle Menegazzi had eight. Jade Hansen had three aces.

"The thing I really liked was that we spread the ball around, and got several hitters involved," Fuller said.

"Defensively, we need better intensity," she said. "We're not playing up to our strength."
