The 2007 'year in review': Second half of sports, outdoors

? The Bigfork All-star team finished fourth overall at the tournament. The Bigfork All-stars finished their season one game shy of going to state. The team won the Last Chance Tournament in Kalispell July 28-29.

? Jewel Basin Hiking Area forest service rangers Beverlee Shivers and Lewis Kogan look for the name of a wildflower for one curious hiker. The two manned the hiking area throughout the summer, helping hikers find trails, keep the area clean and perform trail maintenance.

? British Soccer coach Marc Briggs leads participants of the Challenger Sports soccer camp in "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" at the Carlysle Johnson Fields.

Briggs and Mike Garrod, the two British coaches, challenged the campers with soccer skills as well as geography, traditions and culture of soccer playing countries with the camp's Camp World Cup Tournament August 17.

? The woods south of Swan Lake were alive with memories Oct. 5 as folks from all over Western Montana came to walk the Sprunger-Whitney Nature Trail and reminisce about the men for whom it is named.

Jack Whitney and Elmer Sprunger were more than familiar faces in Bigfork, in many ways they were its conscience. And, according to everyone in attendance, the two loved these woods along the Swan River as much as anywhere in the world.

? Christine Neu, Bobbi Wolstein, Lisa Edwards, Patty Smith, Vernon Smith and Kathy Boiteau look out from the new concession building. All of them played integral roles in completing the project.

Construction of the building began in June with the demolition of the former concession building. The prospect of the building started six years ago.

? Bigfork Viking Keenan Evans goes up for a basket against Frenchtown at the Northwest/Southwest Tipoff Tournament. The Vikings won the game 43-27. It was their first victory since the 2005-2006 season.
