Robert Holcomb

Robert George Holcomb, 82, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Crestwood Convalescent Home in Sequim, Wash. He was born on Nov. 16, 1925 in Bismarck, N.D., the son of George and Maggie (Hall) Holcomb. He was the 11th child of 13 and was the last surviving sibling.

Robert married Marion "Mary" Lucille Mellem on Dec. 4, 1943. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1944, going into the Army Corps of Engineers. He served in WWII, was wounded and returned to service. He earned several medals and ribbons. After serving two years and being honorably discharged he returned to Montana, working in the timber industry and for the Anaconda Aluminum Company. He retired from Anaconda Aluminum.

He was married to Mary for 36 years, until her death. He then relocated to Sequim, in 1982. He married Katherine "Kay" Eunice Redman in 1989. They were married for 14 years until her death.

Robert was preceded in death by 10 sisters and two brothers, his first wife Mary and second wife Kay.

He is survived by his son, Robert E. Holcomb of Vashon Island, Wash., and his daughter, Dorthy "Dolly" Poe of Port Angeles, Wash., and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Robert were held Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor John Weaver officiating. Burial followed at Glacier Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by the United Veterans of the Flathead.

Renee Stringfellow Mountan

Renee Alison Stringfellow Mountan, 52, a loving daughter, mother and friend, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at her home in Martin City due to complications from an extended illness.

Renee was born Feb. 27, 1955, to Norman and Nikkie Stringfellow in Kalispell. She graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1973 and attended classes at Flathead Valley Community College until marrying her first husband in 1973.

Renee was re-married in 1982 in Great Falls, and had two children, Michael Mountan in 1983, and Shawn Mountan in 1984.

Renee moved back to the Flathead Valley in 1988 where she devoted herself to the raising of her two young boys. Most of all throughout her life, Renee enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, camping, hiking and gold panning; but her one true passion in life was fishing.

Renee had a great passion for all animals, having a range of pets including turtles, raccoons, horses and her beloved dogs, Sammy, Sydney, Ceria, Sophie, Squirt and Poodle Boy.

Her family wrote, "Mom you gave us life, protection, hope and most of all you gave us love that will always be with us for now and ever. We love you and will miss you, and your love will live on with us forever."

Renee was preceded in death by her brother, Ty Scott Stringfellow; and her father, Norman Madison Stringfellow.

Renee is survived by her two sons, Michael Mountan of Kalispell, and Shawn Mountan of Great Falls; mother, Nikkie Stringfellow, of Columbia Falls; two sisters, Tikki Levenson of Delta Junction, Alaska, and Judy Hall of Tallahassee, Fla., three grandchildren Joey, Ty and Lillian Mountan; and numerous nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her companion, James Stiller.

Visitation was Jan. 3 at the Columbia Falls Mortuary. A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 4, at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls.

Stuart Nuss

Stuart Ragan Nuss, 52, passed away Dec. 24, 2007, at his home in Columbia Falls. He was born Sept. 17, 1955, in Livingston and raised in Yellowstone National Park.

He was owner of Nuss Excavating in Columbia Falls, and a former National Park Service employee at Glacier National Park, as well as various other national parks. He was also a smokejumper for the U.S. Forest Service.

Stuart enjoyed woodworking, stained glass art work and gunsmithing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Nuss; parents, Bunny and Dale Nuss; and sisters, Cara Lee Nuss and Lori Nuss.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. at 1370 Mooring Meadow Road. A family memorial will follow this spring. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.

Doris Yenne

Doris R. Yenne, 91, of Bigfork passed away on Dec. 26, 2007 at Health Center Northwest in Kalispell. Doris was born Sept. 18, 1916 in Kalispell to Lucien and Fannie (Parker) Blackmer.

She attended grade school at Lake Blaine and graduated from Flathead High School in 1933. She was married to Thomas P. Yenne on April 3, 1937 at the Blackmer farm near Lake Blaine. Doris and Thomas were able to spend 65 wonderful years together before his passing in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Howard and Boyd.

Doris spent her married life as a devoted wife and mother. She was active in the Creston Community Club, the Creston Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, AARP and the Kalispell Senior Citizens. Her hobbies were sewing and various crafts. In later years her failing eyesight limited these activities, but she enjoyed time visiting with family and friends.

Doris is survived by her two sons, Gerald and his wife JoLynn of Bigfork, and Alan and his wife Bette Lou of Hood River, Ore.; four grandchildren, Wayne Yenne of Colorado Springs, Colo., KayLynn Waddell of Woodland Park, Colo., and Karen Norton and Janet Tipton of Vancouver, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Doris was held on Friday, Jan. 4 in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel.

Kathryn Black

Kathryn M. (Hader) Black, 50, passed away Jan. 1 in Seattle, Wash., after a long and courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. She kept her great sarcastic sense of humor 'til the end.

She was born Jan. 10, 1957 in Kalispell to Jack and Marge Hader. She was raised and educated in Columbia Falls, graduating with the class of '75. She worked briefly at the Columbia Falls Aluminum plant before moving to the Seattle area. She spent the last 30 years living on the Northwest coast.

Kathryn's father, Jack, and brother, Larry, precede her in death. She is survived by her mother, Marge, of Columbia Falls; children Shalisa and Antar; grandson and love of her life, Tariq; stepdaughter McKala Copeland and her four children, all of the Seattle area; brother Lance and sister-in-law Sharon of Gold Bar, Wash., who cared for Kathy at the end; brothers John (Kip) of Spokane, Chris and wife Debbie, Mark, Brad and wife Chrystal, BJ and wife Crystal, all of Columbia Falls; sisters Debbie Emerson of Hungry Horse, Tama Guse and husband Mark of Columbia Falls; grandmother Lucille Hader of Harlem; several aunts, an uncle, and many cousins; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a scattering of ashes will be at a later date.

Judy Sizemore

Judy Sizemore passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 5 of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. She was born Nov. 6, 1944 to Louie and Loretta Naylor in Hillsboro, Ore. Her adoptive father, Jim Winegar, was also a critical part of her youth.

Judy lived her early years in the Portland area and moved to Columbia Falls in 1956 at the age of 12. She was married to Frank Sizemore in June of 1963. They lived in San Diego, Calif., and Fallon, Nev., while Frank served in the U.S. Navy before settling back in Columbia Falls.

Judy and Frank had three sons: Bud in 1965, Darrell in 1967 and Stacey in 1968. Through the years Judy worked at many jobs in Columbia Falls but her favorite profession was to be a mom to her kids and grandchildren, their friends and others in need.

She began attending Crossroads Church of Columbia Falls in 1997 and recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized in 1999. She was active in church work and hosted a ladies Bible study for several years. Other community service included Cub Scouts, manager of concessions for Columbia Falls Baseball for several years and she was a charter member of the Moose Lodge of Kalispell.

Judy loved to read, camp and go on hunting trips. She also loved to cook and had a gift for hospitality, hosting people in her home regularly. She was a devoted friend and spent countless hours serving others in their time of need.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jim and Loretta Winegar; her brother, Larry Winegar; and her sister, Nancy Semantel. She is survived by her husband, Frank, of Columbia Falls; sons, Bud and his wife Kim of Covington Wash.; Darrell and Stacey, both of Columbia Falls; grandchildren, Dani Sizemore, Kayla Sizemore, Bryce Sizemore, Ashley Sizemore, Frankie Sizemore, Sean McBride, Kylie Gravelle, Michelle Wolfe, Chad Wolfe, Jazemine Sizemore, Cameron Sizemore; and great-granddaughter Meriah Wolfe.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Church, 5091 Highway 2 West in Columbia Falls (behind LaSalle Grange Hall) on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. Pastors Rich Cloyed and Frank Vargas are officiating.
