Whitefish ladies battle the Bravettes
By DAVID ERICKSON - Whitefish Pilot
The Whitefish Lady Bull-dogs traveled to Flathead High School on Friday night looking to prove they could hang with a Class AA team and beat their valley rivals at the same time.
Things were looking good for Whitefish early on, as they hustled to an early 11-8 lead in the first quarter. Late in the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs were up 18-15, but the Bravettes started grabbing more rebounds and outshooting Whitefish.
Flathead outscored White-fish 23-13 in the second quarter, and those 10 points would prove to be the difference in the game, as Flathead went on to win 64-54.
“I’m proud of the kids,” Bulldog head coach Tim Olson said. “They competed against a talented Flathead team. (Kalispell) went on a 10-0 run, and that kind of spelled disaster for us. Our girls never did quit though.”
Amanda Ormsby scored a game-high 18 points, and Ashley Ferda dropped another 15. Ferda also went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, a telling statistic if anyone needed more reasons why she is going to be playing college ball this fall.
Ferda rolled her ankle two minutes into the game, but she showed her toughness by fighting through the injury the whole game.
“Playing a (Class AA) team like Flathead is tough, because they have some talented kids, but it’s going to help you in the long run,” Olson said.
The game was fairly close the entire game, with Whitefish getting within six points of the Bravettes twice in the second half.
