Control sprawl

| January 31, 2008 11:00 PM

One can understand rural property owners within Whitefish's "doughnut" sphere of influence objecting to city control on zoning and growth, but in reality this happens all the time.

Everytime a piece of property is in the hands of an owner not voting in that district, the landowner, nevertheless, is subject to the jurisdiction of the local government in which he/she does not vote.

The big issue is: Do we want county sprawl like the U.S. Highway 93 corridor? No more rural lifestyle, just developers throwing up homes and subdivisions.

Sorry, folks, but it you want to preserve the scenic character of the greater Whitefish area, you are going to have to face controls to avoid looking like the Bitterroot Valley (or, now, the U.S. 93 corridor), no matter where or whether you vote on it.
