Many local winners at Whitefish Lake Run

The 31st annual Whitefish Lake Run drew a huge field of competitors to City Beach on Saturday morning. The weather was beautiful, and after the race the runners mingled and shared muffins, bananas and laughs.
Several local runners did well in their age groups. Henry Holt of Whitefish placed first in the 5k boys 9-12 age group with a time of 22:33.1. Jabby Young of Whitefish placed first in the 5k men's 50-59 age group with a time of 19:10.6. Mike Muldown took first in the 5k men's 60-69 age group with a time of 24:53.8.
Shawn Whitman, who will be a junior this fall at Columbia Falls High School, earned second in the 5K men's race. His time was 17:15.9. Veteran runner Mark Tarr finished eighth with a time of 19:02.8. Michael Kruse, also of Columbia Falls, was 10th (19:14.1).
For the women, Marlow Schulz took first in the 5k girls 9-12 age group with a time of 24:05.1. Steffi Osland took first in the 5k girls 16-18 age group with a time of 22:03.8. Joanne Peaerson took first in the 5k women's 60-69 age group with a time of 33:16.7, and Sally Porcarelli took first in the women's 70-79 group with a time of 38:49.5.
In the 10k race, Seth Carbonari took first in the men's 30-39 group with a time of 39:53.9, and Larry Sandefur took first in the 50-59 group with a time of 40:37.5. Whitefish High School standout Loni Hanson took first in the girls 16-18 group with a dominating time of 41:49, and Linda Vevera took first in the women's 50-59 group with a time of 46:35.2.
