Red Sox win again as playoffs approach
Bigfork Eagle
Playoffs are just around the corner and the Bigfork Babe Ruth Red Sox are looking for their hard hitting and solid pitching to carry them through to victory.
Bigfork blasted the Columbia Falls Night Owl team 21-2 on May 28. The win moved the Red Sox's record to 9-2.
"Our hitting was the highlight, of course," coach Tom Schuster said. Bigfork scored 21 runs on 16 hits with everyone on the team contributing at the plate. Not one Red Sox player struck out.
Bigfork's first three batters in the first inning were sent down in order, but hit the ball very well, according to Schuster.
"I knew we just had to keep swinging, and good things would start to happen," he said.
The Red Sox exploded in the second inning with eight runs and continued hitting the ball well the remainder of the game. Cody Dopps and Mitchell Harsh notched three hits each and combined for five of the 21 runs. Ben Sandry, Steven Schuster and Jake Mitich all had two hits.
"The hitting and solid pitching is what we want to carry into the playoffs," Schuster said. Skylar Doaks, Schuster and Christian Ker combined for the win on the pitching mound. "We are fortunate to have six pitchers on this team that do a heck of a job," Schuster said of his and assistant coaches Dan Doak and Paul Sandry's good fortune of having a talented roster. Shane Collins, Kyle Parker and Dopps also pitch.
