Bigfork High School's yearbook, "Le Lac," took first place among Class A schools in a statewide journalism competition recently.

The yearbook — which means "The Lake" in French — took the 2006-2007 Pacesetter Award from the Montana Journalism Education Association. The book featured a viking wielding a giant dinner fork on the cover with the title "Meet the Forkers" embossed on the cover. The cover took home second place for its design.

"These are some really great kids," said yearbook teacher Mike Roberts.

The book, though honored with this year's award, is actually from last year, so some members of the staff have moved on from BHS.

Members of the staff took individual awards as well, with Avery Vogel winning second place in the "Student Life" category; Kainoa Lake, now a freshman at the University of Montana, won 2nd in "Infographic" and "Photo Illustration" categories; Hadley Vandiver and John White — also a freshman at UM — took 3rd for their sports spread. Vandiver was also the runner-up in the High School Yearbook Journalist of the Year competition.
