| October 2, 2008 11:00 PM

Rochelle "Kelly" DeVidas Funk, 86, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sept. 4, 2008, at Birchwood Care Center in Bozeman.

She was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Izmir, Turkey. The third eldest of eight brothers and sisters, Rochelle grew up overlooking the Aegean Sea in mideastern Europe. She attended a variety of schools, becoming fluent in French, Italian and Spanish as well as English. When her family moved to Haifa, Israel, she worked for Barclay's Bank and later for the American Consulate.

Rochelle enjoyed traveling and especially the sea. In 1956, she met Alfred Funk while on vacation when both happened to be visiting the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy. They were married at Caxton Hall in London, England.

In the U.S., they settled in Eugene, Ore., and started a family. As her children grew, the family moved from Eugene to Seattle, Wash., Lubbock, Texas, Laramie, Wyo., and finally Bozeman, where Rochelle worked for 15 years at the registrars office at Montana State University.

Rochelle and Al remained together for 52 years. Rochelle loved old classic movies and lunches with friends. She enjoyed reading, going for walks, the sea and especially family.

She was a kind person who loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved flowers, beauty and nature. Her generosity and gift for friendships kept her close to many hearts. Some of her fondest thoughts were of sitting beside the calm seashore, enjoying the sun. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband Al, of Bozeman, sons Dan Funk, of Roberts, Wis., and Eric Funk and wife Debra, of Whitefish; grandchildren Rachel and Michael Funk, of Roberts, Wis., and Katrina Funk, of Whitefish; and sisters Yvette, Shoshana, Irene and brother Moshe.

At her request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time.
