Supports Fuller
It seems we hear mostly about bad news and what is wrong. Rarely do we hear good news and the day-by-day heroism that occurs among us.
Around July 29 this year, several youths were arrested for stealing and trashing a new truck. This is, of course, bad news. But, there is a bit of great news that goes with it. Heroic action by a local citizen occurred during this very incident.
An alert citizen observed these youths and the vehicle and actually stopped to talk to them, seeing they had been in an accident and may need assistance. This alone is noteworthy. But upon leaving, he got suspicious and called law enforcement. Upon hearing that the vehicle was stolen, this courageous citizen went back and blocked the youths’ exit and held them for law enforcement. This crime would have likely gone unsolved had he not stepped up to the plate.
Thank God for the alertness, courage and conviction of this citizen. Since the crime occurred out in the country and out in the woods, this was not the same as confronting someone in a place where a police officer may just be two minutes away. This action required enormous courage, confidence and “cajones.” As a result, evil doers were caught and hopefully justice will be done, both for the owner of the vehicle and the perpetrators of the crime.
Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for the bad guys, this army veteran, Flathead High School teacher and former wrestling coach was not derelict in his duty. At great personal risk and for no benefit to himself, other than the altruism to help society, John Fuller stepped up to the plate and did all of us a favor. The world is a little safer because of his courageous action. May his tribe increase.
Incidentally, this same man is now running for the Montana State Legislature in Whitefish. I for one am glad we still have men of his conviction and caliber in our society and that they are willing to serve when need arises or when called upon, whether in the spotlight or not.
