If the Polson Pirates didn't know who sophomore forward Mac Adams was before Tuesday's game in Whitefish, they sure did afterward.

Adams exploded for five goals in leading the Bulldogs to an 8-0 victory. The win puts Whitefish at 4-0-1 overall and 2-0 in Northwestern A play.

"He came off the field kind of wide-eyed," head coach O'Brien Byrd said. "I wasn't surprised. He has just great potential. He's such an athlete, but he's never believed in himself like he does now."

Jack Steele, Patrick Jones and Nik Ortman also scored goals for Whitefish. It was the third shutout of the season for the Bulldogs. Goalkeeper Joe Galbraith, who Byrd said has gained several inches and 20 pounds, has been a force to be reckoned with in the net.

Byrd said forwards Felix Hermsdorf and Travis Adams hit the post several times. White-fish outshot the Pirates 23-5.

"We could have had our three forwards score 15 goals," he said.

Byrd said the Polson match was a great game for his team to work the kinks out before they take on their rivals, the Columbia Falls Wildcats, today at 5 p.m. on the road.

"It's a great way for us to ramp up for the Columbia Falls game on Thursday. We always have a target on our back when we play them," he said. "If we aren't mentally prepared, it could be a long day at the office. I can't wait for that game."
