Snow melting away on golf course

Course opening

The snow is disappearing rapidly, and with any break at all, the Whitefish Lake Golf Course should open in the next few days. The driving range will be open this weekend.

The turf is emerging in what appears to be excellent condition, which is a testament to the green crew's fall efforts for winter preparation. Our staff is very busy cleaning up from winter windstorms and what water and ice damage occurred.

We are excited about the new season and look forward to seeing all our members and friends on the course.

New tee projects

The new tees on holes 13 and 14 of the North Course should be completed in a matter of weeks once the weather allows the contractors to get back to work.

The major excavation and shaping was completed last fall, but the new cart path on 13 has to be constructed along with finish grading of the tees and surrounding area.

Once these new tees are complete all of the holes on the North Course will have four different tees for players to choose.

New Web site

Whitefish Lake Golf Club's new Web site, www.golfwhitefish.com, is now available for members and guests. The site will be much more interactive and allow for easier posting of information for players to access.

Thanks to one of our local members, Forest White, for helping us build such a great Web site.

Get golf ready

On Saturday, May 9, from 3-5 p.m., the course will host a "get ready for golf" opportunity for the golfing community. Registration forms are available in the Golf Shop.

This event will be open to the first 50 applicants to register for the clinic on the fundamentals essential for getting you started and improving your game.

Men's league meeting

This organizational meeting for men's league is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, starting at 7 p.m. Team representatives should attend to make sure their team is registered for the 2009 season.

A discussion of how the league will operate, schedule, rules, events, prizes, etc. will all be discussed.

Season opener tourney

The annual Season Opener Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 2, with registration forms being taken in the Golf Shop.

The format will again be a two-person net-best ball event, so round up your partner for the tournament and get registered.

The entry fee is $60 per team and includes a luncheon. The field will be limited to the first 40 teams to register and will most likely be played on the North Course.

Early season cart use

The turf will remain quite sensitive to compaction and disturbance when the course first opens for the season, so we ask that our members and guests use extreme caution, follow the cart signs and rules of the day, as well as avoiding any area that is wet.
