The Columbia Falls Lions Club meets at 6:30 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays each month at the Back Room, in the same building as the Nite Owl Restaurant. Contact a Lions Club member for information about joining the organization.

Children ages 3-5 are needed for participation in the Hero Day Care as part of the child development classes at Columbia Falls High School. The day care begins Thursday (today), April 23 and runs through June 3. Day care is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost is $25 for the entire session. Glacier Gateway Elementary’s fourth-grade classes present a musical, “The Adventures of Lewis and Clark” on Friday, April 24 at 1:45 p.m. in the Little Theater at Columbia Falls High School. A complimentary reception for students, parents and guests will follow. The 35-minute program will feature students singing eight choreographed numbers. The adventures are viewed through the eyes of Cassie, a very precocious student.

Governor’s State Arbor Day and Tree City USA Award Ceremony April 24 at Marantette Park from 12:50 to 2:30 p.m. Includes Arbor Day play by Boys & Girls Club, poem recital by students of District 6, tree planting for each of seven area schools, appearance by Smokey Bear, Native Plant Society–Native Tree ID exhibit.

The spring International Gift Festival will be held at Mountain View Mennonite Church, 795 Mennonite Church Road in Creston, on Friday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival features fair-trade quality handcrafted goods made by artisans in Third World countries sponsored by Ten Thousand Villages. Products include baskets, kitchen ware, ceramic pots, linens, jewelry, toys, instruments, garden items and much more. The Village Cafe will be serving Mexican tortilla soup, Indonesian rice salad, baked potato soup, homemade pies and bread, Chai tea and fair-trade coffee. Those attending can bring items for newborn kits, which will be used in orphanages, hospitals and refugee camps around the world

You don’t have to be a great swimmer to be a member of the Columbia Falls Swim Team, just willing to try your best and have some fun. The swim team is looking for new members ages 5 to 17 to help the squad have another winning season, which is June, July and the first weekend of August. Sign-ups will be held Sunday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glacier Discovery Square. Registration cost is $75. Columbia Falls Community Kitchen will be serving free, delicious meals the last four days of this month. The meals are served Monday, April 27 through Thursday, April 30 at 6 p.m. in the basement of St. Richard’s Catholic Church. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the meals in a friendly atmosphere.

Join photographer Chris Peterson of Glacier Park Magazine for his photo show “Confessions of a Citizen Scientist” as he takes a light hearted look as an amateur biologist in Glacier. He will speak Wednesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at Glacier Discovery Square. Peterson has been photographing Glacier’s flora and fauna for the past 11 years. This show includes loons, mountain goats, pikas, river otters and other cool creatures he met along the way. A a $2 donation at the door will be asked to help ensure the First Best Place Task Force can continue to host lectures like this. For more information go to www.firstbesplace.org.
