Middle school hosts track meet
"Due to various reasons we did not have our full team competing on Friday," said head BMS track coach Jessica Johnson. "Those who competed represented Bigfork well. It will be nice to have more numbers at the upcoming meets."
The Bigfork team has 41 athletes on it, two of which are from Swan River School. There are four sixth grade girls and five boys, four seventh grade girls and 11 boys and five eighth grade girls and 12 boys.
"The returners performed very well," Johnson said. "I think they all had personal bests in more than one event. Our first-timers also did very well. There is a lot to learn about track and they are picking things up quite quickly."
Seven of the athletes on the Bigfork team have previously competed in track, all of which are 8th graders.
"The returners who competed all stood out to me," Johnson said. "They demonstrated strong leadership qualities and had great athletic performances."
The BMS track team has meets every Friday for the next four weeks. They will be held in Whitefish, Polson, Kalispell and Columbia Falls.
"We have a hard-working group of athletes and I'm very excited to see their accomplishments over the next month of track," Johnson said.
