Former Bulldogs coach set to join Providence staff

| August 6, 2009 11:00 PM

Former Whitefish High School boys basketball coach Eric Stang has accepted a position as graduate coaching assistant at Providence College in Rhode Island.

Stang, 34, will work under 2008 AP Basketball Coach of the Year Keno Davis while pursuing a Master's Degree in Education Administration.

The Friars play in the highly competitive NCAA Division I Big East conference and were 19-14 overall last year. The team upset No.1 Pittsburgh late in the season before making the NIT Tournament.

Stang coached at Whitefish for two seasons and in that time the Bulldogs were 30-18 and made the state tournament both times.

Former assistant coach Mark Casazza replaced Stang as Whitefish head coach in June.
