Darrell Slaybaugh
Darrell A. Slaybaugh, of La Pine, Ore., passed away July 27, 2009.
He was born on April 21, 1935, in Chinook to Bert and Margaret Slaybaugh.
Darrell grew up in Whitefish and graduated from Whitefish High School. He served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
Darrell married Carol Y. Hanson on Oct. 30, 1954, in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1997. He was affiliated with the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He especially loved his grandkids; his face would light up whenever he was around them.
Darrell and Carol moved to La Pine to be near his family.
He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Slaybaugh; sister Catherine Tew; daughters Kathy Morris and Kim Davis; granddaughter Jennifer Lockhart; and grandson Jason Lockhart.
Survivors include his wife Carol Slaybaugh; daughter Karen Lockhart and husband James; brothers Donald Slaybaugh, of Kalispell, and John Weiss, of Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Pin and Cue in Whitefish on Aug. 20, 2009, at 2 p.m.
