Seals charges are unfair

| December 24, 2009 11:00 PM

The criminal assault charges filed against three Navy Seals for allegedly hitting one of the most notorious terrorists in Iraq during his capture was another case of this government's assault on our military in time of war.

The charges stem from statements that the terrorist made after the Americans turned him over to Iraqis. There were no witnesses to the alleged crime.

Will our sailors receive the same rights as the 9/11 terrorists receive in New York? That includes having the Iraqi terrorist come to the U.S. and be confronted by the men he accused.

Having been a member of the Army Special Forces, and with my son now serving in the Air Force Special Ops, I understand the courage, commitment and sacrifice of these men.

Instead of commendations for capturing a terrorist that was hunted for more than five years, these men are facing career-ending criminal charges.

The real crime is asking our men to risk their lives fighting against terrorism under these unbelievable constraints. Why is our government treating our heroes as criminals?
