Christian Motorcyclists Association

Christian Motorcyclists Association is composed of dedicated, sincere members with a goal described as reaching people through Christ in highways and byways through the avenue of motorcycling.

The Harvest Riders of Flathead Valley is part of 130,000 members of the organization. It was started 30 years ago in Hatfield, Ark., and continues to grow in membership. Interestingly enough, members do not have to own a motorcycle. Stringent requirement, however, is for the individual to be a Born Again Christian and believer.  

I had seen their attractive decal on jackets, but did not know the complete significance of wearing one. Members are required to do training videos, and act like a Christian before earning the decal and letter.

It is emphasized that Christian Motorcyclists Association is not a Christian club or a riding group designed to separate Christians from the influences of the world. Their ministry is described as spreading the light of the world into dark places.

Run for the Son takes place May 2 and is a nationwide event. It is stipulated that every rider stops at 11 a.m., regardless of location, to pray contributions will go to God’s glory. Money donated is used to purchase Bibles in 88 languages, which are distributed throughout the world.

Funds are also used to buy dirt bikes for missionaries so they may minister to neighboring villages. Run for the Son involves riding 100 miles that day.

Members of Harvest Riders volunteer to help at area motorcycling events. This includes the annual motocross race at Hungry Horse sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Christian Motorcyclists members assist with flagging and as needed throughout the racing events.

Local members participate in Evel Knievel Days in Butte as well as famous Sturgis, S.D., events.

They also do volunteer work at these functions.

I appreciated visiting with Barbara and Howard Crawford concerning Christian Motorcyclists Association. Incidentally, they are also known as Harley Howard and Biker Barb.

Harvest Riders meetings take place the second Saturday of each month at Perkins Restaurant.

The business session starts at 9 a.m., although some members gather at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast. Guests are welcome.

Members are available as a group to attend any church for a worship service. Ministers may contact Steve Douglas, president, or any member for information.
