Myrtle Bean

Myrtle Drovdahl Bean passed away on June 18, 2009, in Poulsbo, Wash.

She was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Chester, one of seven children born to Lars and Randi Drovdahl, Norwegian immigrants.

Her childhood and school days were lived in Whitefish, where she graduated from Whitefish High School in 1937. As a young adult, she earned a business school degree and worked as a secretary in Spokane, Wash., where she had the company of her brothers Rudy and Randell.

Myrtle moved to Bremerton, Wash., in 1941, where she worked as a customer account representative for the telephone company. On Jan. 31, 1951, she married William E. Bean, with who she had two children. Myrtle was employed as a secretary at the Bremerton Child Guidance Center from 1966 until she retired in 1973.

Myrtle was a loving homemaker and an avid gardener. She enjoyed sewing, baking and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After her husband's death in 2001, she lived at Liberty Shores in Poulsbo for the last 7 1/2 years of her life.

Myrtle is survived by her two children, Randena Bean Walsh, of Kingston, Wash., and Dale Bean, of Ouro Preto, Brazil; grandchildren Cheryl, Carly, Paulo and Andrea; and great grandchildren Payton, Hunter and Brianna.

A private memorial service was held at the home of her daughter Randena and son-in-law Joseph Walsh.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joyce Workman

Joyce Workman, 70, mother, daughter, sister and friend, died on June 14, 2009, peacefully at her home in Kalispell, surrounded by family and friends she made during her memorable life.

She was born to Ross and Mayme (Moore) Duke in Mitchell, S.D., on Nov. 4, 1938. The family moved to Cut Bank in 1951, and following graduation, she attended Carroll College.

Most of Joyce's life was devoted to education, teaching in Catholic schools in Baltimore, Salt Lake City, and St. Matthew's in Kalispell. She also served with the Peace Corps for two years in Sierra Leone, West Africa. She completed her own education at Flathead Valley Community College in 2003.

Joyce brought her artistic ability and love of teaching to her Creative Memories business, which she shared with her daughter Katie. She touched many lives and had a special bond with those she inspired to make photo albums, tell their family stories and make every moment count.

The last several years she enjoyed many special events and high school sports in the Flathead area with her companion, Doug Wendt, of Whitefish.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dan.

Survivors include her daughters Colleen Hofland, of Whitefish, Danette Bell, of Bozeman, and Katie Robinson and husband Gene, of Salt Lake City; grandchildren Jamie Beaumont, Jackson Bell, Ashley Wierda and husband Eddie, Andrew and Daniel Robinson, and Daniel Rose; sister Judy Harrington and husband Jim; two great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews and cherished friends.

A funeral Mass will be held June 18, 2009, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.

The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to Glacier Presbyterian Youth Camp, P.O. Box 384, Lakeside MT 59922 or St. Matthew's Catholic School, 602 S. Main Street, Kalispell MT 59901.

John Ost

John Ost, 58, died at his home in Denver, Colo., on June 26, 2009.

John was born and raised in Whitefish and graduated from Whitefish High School.
