WEB UPDATE: Fireworks spark .5-acre blaze at BHS
Bigfork Eagle
The Bigfork Volunteer Fire Department responded to a .5-acre fire in the field just above Commerce Street below the Bigfork High School football field around noon on Friday. The cause — still sitting at the scene — were fireworks.
"The grass is dry enough for it to start," said department safety officer Rick Trembath.
Small crews from the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the U.S. Forest Service also responded to the grass fire.
Trembath said the various agencies are practicing joint-responses so that when August arrives and fire season takes off, they'll be better prepared.
"We want to be ready to work together," Trembath said.
There was no damage caused by the fire and officials cautioned area residents to take extra care with fireworks over the weekend.
