Gore back as Rollins fire chief

| July 23, 2009 11:00 PM

This year there is reason to celebrate at the annual barbeque as a former Rollins fire chief has returned to the office. Longtime fire chief Terry Gore, who stepped down about five year ago after serving eight years in the office, agreed to take up the mantle once again and was installed as chief of the Rollins fire department in late June. That news has a lot of people excited.

"Terry's a good team builder and he really know the business," event chairman Ron Tjaden said. "He leads by example. Everyone who knows Terry Gore respects him. He's well thought of in the industry. Some people just are really good at fighting fires, and that's Terry."

Gore, who recently retired from his full-time employment and suddenly found himself with sufficient time to again devote himself to managing the fire department, said he too is excited about returning to the position.

"I'm grateful for the support and encouragement shown to me by the member of the department, as well as the members of the Rollins community," Gore said.

Gore has been involved with the Rollins fire department for more than 20 years and also has a long history with the annual fundraiser.

"He runs the pits," Tjaden said. "He lights the fires at about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and he puts all the meat in-about 700 pounds of meat that cooks all night in the pit to be ready for Sunday."
