Stumptown Art Studio will host its 14th annual Spring Show of Student Artwork and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, June 4, from 6-9 p.m. during First Thursday Gallery Nights. The exhibition of works by young neighborhood artists is a culmination from Stumptown Art Studioís youth classes since last fall. The Purple Pomegranate will feature work by Finley Point ceramic artist Mimi Werner during the month of June. In the 30 years Werner has worked as a ceramic artist, she has primarily focused on high-fired, functional porcelain wares. She is now experimenting with electric-fired porcelain using discarded auto parts to stamp relief into functional plates and baking dishes. Whitefish Goldsmiths, 420 Third Street, will feature “Beargrass and Berries,” a collection of original paintings by Jane Latus Emmert, through June 30. Emmert paints a varied collection of subjects, from Glacier National Park landscapes to impressionistic flowers to Angel Cloud Art, womanly figures based on cloud shapes. Whitefish Theatre Company will present Fuddy Meers at the O'Shaughnessy on June 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. The wild and wacky comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire tells the story of Gertie's daughter Claire, who wakes up each day with a smile on her face and a blank slate for a memory. Her job for the day is to learn who she is and, sometimes, on good days, to remember what she is supposed to be doing. Nancy Nei directed this production. Amy McAntee plays Claire, Russ Moes plays her husband Richard, Life Noell plays her son Kenny, the limping man is Alfred Coggins, Gertie is Penny Carpenter, Millet is played by Jim Mohn, and the lady cop is Michele Keener. This is the annual cabaret theater, with table or mezzanine seating. The play contains strong language. Tickets are $18 adults and $16 seniors and students. All seating is reserved. Whitefish Young Life will hold a yard sale at 4312 Highway 40, about 1.4 miles west of U.S. 93, on Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to noon. Proceeds will benefit camp scholarships and the general operating fund.

Saturday

Whitefish Fish Trails will hold its fifth National Trails Day celebration at Depot Park on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 11 a.m. with trail dedications, food and merchandise vendors, music, kids racing and bike-decorating contests, and Whitefish’s third nationally-sanctioned Criterium downtown bike race. Flathead Fat Tires, a local non-profit mountain bike advocacy group, will host a work party at the Armory Park Dirt Jumps on National Trails Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Northwest Montana Gold Prospectors will hold their spring kick-off on Bernie Road, off U.S. 2 in Columbia Heights, on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 10 a.m.There will be free demonstrations of equipment, panning and metal detector contests, kids games and a potluck dinner at noon. Yeltzi, a fiddle-driven, gypsy bluegrass duo, will perform at the Belton Chalet in West Glacier on June 7-8 at 7 p.m. and at the Northern Lights Saloon in Polebridge on June 12 at 6 p.m. Sara Softich and Jason Wussow have been touring for five years and have made several CDs.

Flathead Audubon will offer a spring bird-watching trip in the Mission Valley on Sunday, June 7. Participants will visit the National Bison Range and drive up and over Red Sleep Mountain Drive to look for a myriad of warblers, vireos and sparrows. Monday

A celebration in recognition of Doug Follett's 50th summer in Glacier National Park as a ranger-interpreter accomplishment will take place at the West Glacier Community Center at Park Headquarters on June 8 starting at 5 p.m. with a potluck dinner and a cake.

Follett is best known for his poetry recitals on trails and boat tours. People attending the event are asked to wear purple, Follett’s favorite color. Organizer Kim Redding said a scrapbook is being put together and newspaper clippings or photos are needed.
