Creeping socialism
ocialism in and of itself is not evil. As a young man, I freely chose to participate in the noble socialism practiced by the U.S. Marine Corps. All of my basic needs were provided by my government, and in return I did my country’s bidding.
What made the Marine Corps’ form of socialism noble was its treatment of all participants equally. In the Marine Corps, citizens who chose to be overweight, lazy, selfish, habitually foolish and unproductive were disciplined and/or removed from the society.
What makes President Obama’s style of socialism immoral (as well as ineffective) is it is not freely chosen, and it is discriminatory. President Obama’s style of socialism is what I call 50 percent socialism, where the government imposes its will on those who make wise choices and protects from government coercion those who make poor choices.
This is in stark contrast to what I call 100 percent socialism, where the government imposes its will on all Americans equally. If this president (apparently unconstrained by the Constitution) wants to elevate equality as a social value above freedom, then I suggest he place the government’s boot on the necks of unproductive Americans with the same force it currently does on those who are productive.
If President Obama continues to pursue his social equality agenda by punishing only those citizens who play by the rules and make wise choices, he runs the risk of his most productive citizens hiding or reducing their production until he is removed from office.
