Kayla DeWit named to all-state team

Columbia Falls sophomore Kayla DeWit has been elected to the Class A basketball all-state girls first team for the 2008-09 season. DeWit and Alyssa Ladenburg, the sole senior on the team, are part of the Northwestern A all-conference team. Junior Kelsey DeWit was named to the all-conference second team.

Kayla DeWit led the Wildkats in scoring during the season, in which they won a divisional tournament title and posted a 13-9 overall record. The 6-foot DeWit averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game. She was fourth in the league in scoring, and second in rebounding.

Ladenburg enjoyed her best season at C-Falls. The point guard led the 'Kats in assists with about six per game, and she was No. 1 in the Northwestern A in that department. Ladenburg was also the team leader in steals at about four per game, finishing third in the conference. She was 10th in the Northwestern A in scoring at about nine points per contest.

Six-foot-1 Kelsey DeWit finished third in the conference in rebounding at about 9.5 per game. She averaged about 10.5 points per game.

The DeWit sisters were the team leaders in blocked shots.

Joining Kayla DeWit on the Class A girls all-state team are seniors Roxy Thurman of Bigfork and Kate Klundt of Whitefish, and junior Jackie Mee of Libby. Klundt and Mee both averaged about 19 points per game, and Thurman netted about 14 per contest.

Joining Kayla DeWit, Ladenburg, Thurman, Klundt and Mee on the all-conference first team are Libby senior Brittany Martin, and Polson sophomore Breanne Kelley.

On the all-conference second team with Kelsey DeWit are senior Rochelle Woods and junior Nicole Davey, Polson; junior Kailey Fierro and sophomore Mallery Knoll, Bigfork; sophomore Jaime Gilden, Libby; and senior Carli Starkel, Ronan.
