Local skier wins top trophy
Nick Becker was named the overall champion at a three-day race series held at Big Sky Resort on March 13-15. The Whitefish Mountain Resort Race Team member was presented with the large trophy at an awards ceremony following Sunday's final race.
On Friday, Becker placed fourth in a traditional giant slalom race. He followed that result with a second on Saturday in the slalom. Becker proved to be on an upward roll by winning Sunday's race to clinch the overall title.
Sunday's race followed a new format. The Kombi event consisted of five connected sections of alternating slalom and giant slalom to challenge the skiers with adaptability as well as the demands of the two disciplines of slalom and giant slalom. The Kombi event is also a longer event that tests strength and endurance.
Two other event wins were recorded by Whitefish skiers — Brittain Walton in the Jr. 5 slalom and Scott Kahle in the Jr. 3 Kombi.
