Town hall meeting to be held on property tax reappraisals

Bigfork State Rep. Scott Reichner will host a town hall meeting Thursday, Nov. 19, to address questions about the recent property tax reappraisals.

Scott Williams, regional manager of the Montana Department of Revenue, will be present as well as other legislators for a public question-and-answer session.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Bigfork Elementary and Middle School cafeteria.

Property tax assessments, mailed out at the end of August and beginning of September, showed that more than 70 percent of homeowners in Flathead and Lake counties will see a property tax hike. The assessments came from the Montana Department of Revenue's recently concluded tax re-appraisal, as required by the 1972 Montana Constitution.

The most recent re-appraisal cycle ran from Jan. 1, 2002, through July 1, 2008.
