Northwest Ballet Company will return to the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts for their 16th annual Thanksgiving weekend production of “The Nutcracker” on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 27-28, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. Tickets are $20 adults, $17 seniors and $15 children available at Books West in Kalispell, by calling 752-6900 or at the door. The annual “Pray For Snow” bonfire and party will take place at the Bierstube in Big Mountain Village on Saturday, Nov. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. Live music from the Canyon Creek Ramblers will start at 8 p.m. No cover charge, 21-and-older only. The free SNOW Bus will run from downtown Whitefish to the village until midnight.

Glacier Pilot Club will host the second annual Authors Of The Flathead book fair and signing at Kalispell Regional Medical Center’s Paint Brush Room on Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More than 20 Northwest Montana authors will attend. Proceeds will go to supporting the hospital’s brain injury rehabilitation center.

Wednesday

The Whitefish Chamber of Commerce will hold a “Hail and Farewell” reception for retiring executive director Sheila Bowen and incoming executive director Kevin Gartland at the Whitefish Community Center, home of the Golden Agers, on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 4-6:30 p.m. Spirits and appetizers will be served.

Kate Kendall, an ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, will give a presentation on “The Secret Life of Bears” in the Glacier Room at Grouse Mountain Lodge on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 7-8:30 p.m. The free presentation is offered by Grouse Mountain Lodge and Glacier National Park Fund. Kendall’s well-known bear DNA study in Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness employed hundreds of technicians who set barbed wire snares to collect bear hair. The 25th annual Chocolate Extravaganza, sponsored by the Flathead County Republican Women, will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kalispell on Dec. 2 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $19, which includes desserts, a buffet and live music. The Flathead Basin Commission will meet at Tamarack Lodge in Hungry Horse on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flathead County Commissioner Joe Brenneman will talk about the recently created Flathead River Commission, and there will be updates on transboundary issues and TMDL development, but the meeting will focus on FBC business and will not feature in-depth presentations.
