Stop bail outs, help the people
To the editor,
My name is Ruth Smith Chapman. I live in Columbia Falls.
The reason for this letter is to express my feelings on some of the things our government is doing and had done in the name of the people, WRONG.
I am 73 years old, I work as a casino runner and I pay my bills, my insurance, my doctor bills, etc. I have done so for may years, and have worked since I was 17.
Why do the big car companies, banks, mortgage companies, etc. receive so much money and the companies in our area are closing with no thought to the number of people being put out of work.
You (our government) allow the environmentalist to tell us we can't log, including the fire damaged trees, we can't do much of anything because of a few, and we don't need more wildernesses we can't even use.
Why did you let General Motors ruin the lives of 1300 mine workers by taking their jobs away and purchasing their materials form Russia and Africa?
Why do you keep handing out money that we all are going to have to pay back in future taxes?
Why do you feel that we can put 50 million people on a health program and tell us it won't cost someone? Where are all the doctors coming from? We do not need more government in our daily lives. Why penalize people that make an honest $225,000.00 per year (if honestly) for all of this? Why did you allow the Cash for Clunkers car deal? People buy a new car with the deal and how are they going to pay for it?
I am very unhappy to be an American at this point. You work all of your life then have to sit back and watch the people that you put in office take it all away form you.
Why do you continue to allow large companies to award their CEOs huge bonuses? They need to stand up and do their part to help our economy, not take it and run!
I read in our paper of the raises given to the teachers and Montana's Superintendent of Schools. I would like to make more money too, but am thankful to have a job.
My thoughts at this point are that no one cares about us little people that put you in office.
I hope you read this and think about what you are doing to us.
You all seem to forget where you come from and what we put you into office to do.
When I think about your health care program I get really angry. Your (Our governments' health is paid for whether you are in or out of office. You get a lifelong severance pay (President) when you leave office. We (the little people) have no such program. At the expense of the children and grandchildren I don't need it. I will pay my own way. You and government have made a nation of welfare people and now you want those of us who have worked hard all of our lives to pay the price to continue to baby those who wish to be taken care of by the government. I raised 3 children, taught them to do their part and I have supported a disabled husband since 1982.
I know this letter will not do anything to change the way you people do business, but it makes me feel better just writing it. The next election, if we still have a government, I will probably not vote. My disappointment is so great in the people that are representing us.
IN ANGER

P.S. Senator Baucus, the people of Libby were very happy as long as the mine was running. They had a good economy, according to the ad on TV. As for the lung problems, most any job you can name is going to cause illnesses.
Smoking is personal choice. I don't smoke, but I do feel that is right for others to rule on smoking. Abortion is another personal choice, none of anyone's business but mine, my husband, and my doctor. You people would rather have umpteen kids (not wanted) for others to pay for and care for. Please think before you act on all of these things you are trying to make us swallow. We do have a constitution!!!!!!
P.S.S. I just finished reading the paper on the new deal you are trying to force on people with your very idiotic health plan. (9/9/09) Please, we are all trying to take care of our families in this messed up world you people in power have created for us. Who authorized you people to pay out all this stimulus money and then say it is good for our economy. I hope that I have offended a few people especially those voted for in good faith.
I can write more letters, if needed, as I am sure it will be necessary. Please try and think like AN AMERICAN.
