Lakeside community thinks positive

This week I learned that the people of Lakeside won't let a fire get them down.

What could have been seen as a rough week for Lakeside, residents are turning around and seeing as positive.

Pastor Dennis Reese at Lakeside Community Chapel said the way the community came together and supported the firefighters made the experience "wonderful."

It's not too often that you hear someone talk about a fire being wonderful.

And while there were some cuts and bruises, long hours and a few missing cats as hotshot crews pulled out last Thursday, the community did come together.

Residents brought in brownies and cookies for the crews and donated hours preparing or serving meals for the 175 firefighters on duty three times a day.

When asked why, they said they just did it.

Women in Bigfork, and a few men, got a lesson in body image and confidence at the village's first fall fashion runway show Saturday.

The show was meant as a fundraiser for the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts, but it did more than that.

Women of all ages and sizes modeled clothing from Muse-Style to Inspire as part of the "Who Do you want to Be: The Transformative Power of Fashion" show. Event organizer Bridget Michlig did this with a purpose: to encourage women to recognize and celebrate their own body, style and beauty.

Sometimes women just need a little encouragement or a little more color in their wardrobe to give them that confidence, she said.

It was clear by the atmosphere in the room, with attendees laughing and complimenting one another, that it works.
