Impressed by photos
To the editor,
Week after week I am very impressed by Chris Peterson's outstanding wildlife photograpy. This week he captured a howling coyote in the wild which I have never seen done before. I grew up with Mel Ruder's Hungry Horse News for which he got a Pulitzer Prize and Chris's work compares very favorably. The paper always brings back memories such as learning the old hymns we sang at Rainbow Girls at Gladys Shay's house while she played them on the piano in 1959 and George Ostrom's great stories. But this week was special with the photo of the kids under the huge Ponderosa pine near the old Badrock school in 1950. I was in fourth grade there at that time and my grandmother Viola Wendt was the teacher in the upper grades. We used to pick up the pine cones and sneak them into school so we could eat the pine nuts during class. Our school room was heated with a wood stove and when we brought our sleds to school the teacher would pull us home behind her car. How times have changed! Thanks for the memories.
