Wrestlers strong at Buzz Lucey

The Bulldog wrestling squad tallied

strong results last weekend at the Buzz Lucey Memorial tourney in

Eureka with two grapplers making the championship rounds.

Notably, 160-pounder Robby Neff clawed

his way into the finals before falling to Jake Tudahl.

“Robby has been wrestling really well

for us,” Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle said. “He was our wrestler of

the week. His leadership is coming out, and he’s taking the team

on.”

Neff was previously wrestling in the

189-class, well over his weight. Now he’s down to a more

competitive class and the results are showing, Boyle said.

A number of wrestlers on the team

scored the first wins of their careers, including Domonic Sargent

and Auston Bergeson.

“It was really exciting to see them do

so well,” Boyle said. “As a team, we wrestled better than we have

all year. Everybody wrestled better, whether they got a win or not.

It was a real morale booster.”

The team faces conference foes Libby

and Polson after Christmas break.

“We need more condition and to keep on

going hard,” Boyle said about the upcoming duals. “We have good

enough athletes to win, we just don’t have the experience. Right

now, we have to think about the moves instead of them coming

naturally. Once we’re not thinking about it, we’ll be OK.”

Neff and 98-pounder Kaleb Mohn made the

championship round at the Buzz Lucey. Andrew Timmons, Marcelo

Theodoro and Wolf Zinke all made the third-fourth place round.
