King's tribute

| February 4, 2010 11:00 PM

Dear Royal Editor of the Realm,

The Royal Court, Citi-zens of the Kingdom and even minions of the Doughnut Area, are forever grateful of the publicity given by the Pilot to the Whitefish Winter Carnival in the weeks leading up to this Carnival Season… and a special thanks from the Queen and King for an amazing Coronation edition this week.

The cover photo accurately depicted the "Harry Potter" feeling that was in the air and in the hearts of those in attendance. All the photos and coverage were Totally Awesome.

Queen's praise

Your photos and coverage of the Coronation were amazing. The entire issue was full of magic and really told the whole story.

Throughout the event, I felt like Cinderella…. and you made me look like her. I can't thank you enough.

Oh, and the Queen loved the cartoon.

With most gracious prayers for snow, I remain,

Slough trash

Picture yourself at McWennegar Slough, marveling at winter's golden alpenglow. Now see the abandoned beer bottles and junk-food wrappers at the ice fishing hole.

Sportsmen, police thyselves, for I won't be hauling out your trash again. Next time, I'll simply call the Flathead County sheriff.

City litter

Living in Whitefish never ceases to amaze me when it comes to our quality of life and our sense of community. Even when there are contentious issues that we face together as citizens of this great town, it always seems that they are worked through and some common ground is found to satisfy most of those involved.

It is with this in mind that I propose a request to our city council and the city of Whitefish in regards to the 51st annual Whitefish Winter Carnival.

I have noticed over the last several years that as the popularity and size of the Winter Carnival has grown, so has the problem of trash and garbage collection on Central Avenue following the parade.

Last year, it was a very serious problem, with every single trash receptacle on Central Avenue completely overflowing with litter to the point it was accumulating on the ground up and down the street, and it stays there for the entire weekend until the Monday morning collection.

The blighting effect this has on Whitefish, not only to those who live here but also to those visiting, is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Now whether that is resolved by placing additional receptacles for refuse, a special Saturday collection or a volunteer effort of some kind is the area that I would like the council and the city to look into. Your consideration of this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
