Girls thump Pirates for conference lead
The Columbia Falls girls basketball team took sole possession of first place last in the conference week by dropping Polson 61-40.
The Kats, (9-5, 4-0) were led by junior sensation Kayla DeWit who knocked down 25 points. Sister Kelsey tallied 13 and Shay Grilley had 12 in a lopsided win.
Kayla also had 15 rebounds, Kelsey had six and point guard Dani Gilley had three steals, three assists and only two turnovers. The Kats only went to the foul line three times the entire game.
"I was very pleased with their defensive effort," coach Dan Fairbank said.
He said they also did a good job of taking care of the ball. They only had 15 turnovers.
"I'm hoping we're starting to relax more," he said.
The Kats have a busy schedule on the road this week, as they face Ronan Friday, Whitefish Saturday and Libby Tuesday. They then wrap up the regular season with a home game against Polson next Thursday. The Whitefish game starts at 4 p.m.
Fairbank said the tight schedule would be a good primer for the upcoming divisional tournament.
