Girls go 2-1 in conference road trip
The Columbia Falls girls went 2-1 in conference play last week, dropping Ronan Thursday 52-25 and Whitefish Saturday 61-49, but lost to Libby 51-44.
Against the Loggers, Jackie Mee had 29 points to edge the Kats, who had a three point lead at the half. But they had an anemic third quarter, scoring just seven points to the Loggers 17.
The Kats are now 6-1 in conference and wrap up their regular season tonight (Thursday) at home against Polson.
The DeWit sisters continue to do well. Against Ronan, Kayla DeWit dropped in 13 and sister Kelsey had 12. Against Whitefish, Kayla had 22, Kelsey had 19 and Brooke Cady, Dani Gilley and Shay Grilley all chipped in six points apiece.
Coach Dan Fairbank said the girls played one of their worst halfs in awhile against Ronan, but e was still pleased they were able to right the ship by the second half, holding the Lady Maidens to zero points in the fourth.
Brooke Cady had nine steals on the weekend.
Against the Bulldogs, the Kats were relentless. Kayla had 17 rebounds and Kelsey had 19.
"Our goal is to play a little bit better each game," Fairbank said.
Despite their record, the Kats remain unranked in the state.
Against Libby, Kelsey led the scoring with 16 and Kayla had 12, about eight points less than her season average.
The Kats are assured a first-round bye in the divisional playoffs, which isn't saying much — the first three seeds in the tourney this year have byes in order to make it a three-day tournament with only five teams in the conference.
Gametime against Polson is 7:30 p.m.
