Wounded Warrriors

During the week of Feb. 3-8, five Wounded Warriors and their guests who were invited to come to Whitefish to learn to ski also enjoyed the warm hospitality of the community.

We at the Wounded Warrior Project wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every person and business that made the Wounded Warrior visits to Whitefish such a terrific success:

Clean sidewalks

Did you know that it is our obligation and responsibility, as citizens of Whitefish, to keep the sidewalks on all sides of our property clear of snow and ice?

Those of you who are not taking on this responsibility are making it very difficult and treacherous for those of us who like or need to walk downtown, for children going to and from school, for the elderly who no longer drive, and for the post office workers attempting to deliver mail.

I've found that sometimes I am forced to walk down the middle of the street — it's the only route worn of snow and ice.

I would ask everyone to please try and be more diligent in shoveling on a regular basis and keeping the sidewalks clear all the way to the street (many have mounds at the end of the sidewalk and at the beginning of the street which are very difficult to climb up and over to cross the street).

If ice accumulates because of melting and freezing at night, it's best to purchase some sand and spread that around for better traction.

I've witnessed kids falling crossing the street from school onto icy sidewalks. If you're unable to perform these duties, it's your responsibility to hire someone. If you're out of town, remember to make arrangements for someone to clear them in your absence.

Let's all do our part to make Whitefish a more user-friendly town year round.
