Winterfest kicks off Saturday

Update: The Snowmobile Poker Run has been canceled due to a lack of snow.

Winter has come again and that means its time for the 12th annual Winterfest activities Saturday, Jan. 23, in Lakeside.

Events will kick off at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at Lakeside Community Chapel. Costs are $5 per person or $15 per family. Children under age 4 are free. The breakfast, which will continue until 10 a.m., will benefit the chapel's youth group.

Between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., families can register for the eighth annual Family Cup Ski and Snowboard Races at Blacktail Mountain Lodge. The actual races will begin on Emmons Ridge at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. Free sleigh rides will be offered at Blacktail throughout the day as will demos by Sportsman & Ski Haus.

Entrants in the Snowmobile Poker Run will take off at 10 a.m. for a race around Lake Mary Ronan Lodge to Muley's at Blacktail Mountain Ski Area and then looping back to the lodge.

A sporting clays event will take place in Somers, sponsored by Tom Sliter. For details, contact Sliter or Rex Brown at 857-3306.

A wrap-up party will be held at Tamarack Brewing Company with a 275-pound pig roast. Cost is $8 for the meal. At 7 p.m., Secret Powers, a funk band out of Missoula known for playing Beatles music, will perform.
