North Valley Music School faculty will showcase its diverse musical talent with “Words Unspoken” at the O’Shaughnessy on Friday, Feb. 5, with doors opening for student performances in the lobby at 6:30 p.m. and the concert at 7:30 p.m. Roustabouts and the Wicked Witch of the West will be paired with a Debussy piano duo, a Beethoven violin sonata and an electronic composition for three electrified violins and a computer. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 students and seniors, and $25 families available by calling the school at 862-8074 or at the door.

Greg Mortenson, the author of “Three Cups of Tea” and “Stones Into Schools,” which promote peace through education, will be at the Glacier Unitarian Universalist Fellowship church, 1515 Trumble Creek Road, in Kalispell, on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. for a “three cups of tea party.” The fundraiser will raise money for Mortenson’s Central Asia Institute and used for school supplies and to build schools for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. There will be tea, desserts and entertainment by the local Celtic group, Tra le Gael. The suggested minimum donation is $5 per person. For more information, contact Julie Stone at 257-7586.

The Grizzly Scholarship Association and Century Gaming will host the third statewide poker tournament in Montana with a grand prize of a $10,000 seat at the 2010 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Qualifying tournaments will take place around the state starting in January, including Sherwood Sports Bar / High Roller Casino, in Whitefish, on Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning at 2 p.m. For more information on the local tourney, call Susan Munsinger at 212-8298. Whitefish Theatre Company will present “Distracted” in its second Black Curtain Staged Reading of the 2009-2010 season at the O’Shaughness on Sunday, Feb. 7, and Monday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. This modern play by Lisa Loomer delves into the issue of attention deficit disorder and its treatment. Jesse is eight and easily distracted, but so are his mother, father, neighbors and doctors. Has Jesse been correctly diagnosed, or is his distraction caused by over stimulation, bad parenting, too many chemicals in the food or too many poisons in the environment? Jesse Culp, who directed December’s production of “The Wizard of Oz,” will direct cast members Corey Burke, Lori Collins, Gayle Hernandez, Tony Hernandez, Sarah Jerger, Nina Levitt, Amy McAntee and Katie Nixon. Flathead Audubon will host a talk by entomologist Joe Giersch on “Glacier’s Underwater Wildlife: Aquatic Insects in Glacier National Park” on Monday, Feb. 8, in the Community Room of The Summit, in Kalispell at 7 p.m. Giersch’s underwater photography offers a rare view of these often overlooked aquatic animals. Giersch has a master’s in entomology from Montana State University and has worked in and around the streams and rivers of Glacier National Park for much of the last decade.

The American Cancer Society will host a training class for all new Road to Recovery drivers at the Flathead City-County Health Department on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. Since 2003, volunteer drivers have been transporting cancer patients to and from their treatments.
