Sluggish pitching drowns Twins
The Glacier Twin's pitching staff struggled to keep Lethbridge's bats contained Monday night as the Elks posted 30 runs on the Twins in a Legion baseball conference doubleheader at Memorial Park.
The Elks won 10-5 in the first game, and later cruised 20-7 in game two, which ended in the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.
In game two, the Twins went through four pitchers in five innings. Kyle Knox was relieved in the third inning after allowing eight runs off eight hits. Trevor Miller came in and walked two more runs home before Zach Maassen took over and finally scored the final out of the inning.
Glacier managed to stay within reach in the third after Cody Elek stole home and Maassen ripped an RBI-single to make the score 10-3.
The game slipped away in the fifth when the Elks' Sean Maclean crushed a grand slam to center field off Elek, opening up a 20-3 lead.
The Twins put together a last gasp effort in the fifth, but it was too little, too late. Maassen knocked a double to right field to get the rally attempt going. Kris Gross followed with a 2-RBI single to right, and Kyler Blades dropped a 2-RBI bomb to center to make the score 20-7.
Glacier plays in the Sapa-Johnsrud tourney at Memorial Park this week.
