Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will present “Shout!” in the FVCC Black Box Theatre on July 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. and July 31 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Called “the hottest new musical in New York,” the mod musical combines the greatest 1960s pop hits and soul ballads from some of the most famous female musical icons, with eye-popping fashions and psychedelic dances. Alpine Theatre Project wil present “Hair” at the Whitefish Middle School auditorium on Thursday through Saturday, July 29-31, with shows at 8 p.m. When “Hair” first opened in New York City in 1967, it flipped the theater world upside down with its depiction of 1960s counterculture, with popular songs like “Age of Aquarius,” “Easy to Be Hard,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Hair” and “Let the Sunshine In.” This production is directed by Betsi Morrison and is recommended for mature audiences only. Glacier National Park’s Citizen Science Program will hold its first annual Noxious Weed Blitz at the West Glacier Community Building on Friday, July 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be trained to assist the Park’s Invasive Plant Management Program by learning to identify, map with GPS units and pull invasive plants. Participants will break into smaller groups and head out to areas on the west side of the Park to pull weeds. Volunteers are asked to bring drinking water, gloves for hand pulling and sturdy footwear for hiking. The Flathead National Forest will host a free educational “bear fair” at the Izaak Walton Inn, in Essex, on Saturday, July 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will learn about living in bear country, including information about bear-country etiquette, safety and food storage. Presentations by Flathead Forest, U.S. Geological Survey and Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks specialists will take place from 1-3 p.m. For more information, contact the Hungry Horse – Glacier View Ranger District at 387-3800.

A multi-faith coalition of clergy representatives and serenading troubadours will bless pets during the Summer Animal Blessing Celebration at Woodland Park’s Eastside Pavilion, in Kalispell, on Saturday, July 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Flathead Valley Humane Society will also participate in this event.

St. Peter Lutheran Church of Whitefish will sell berry pies at the Bigfork farmers market at the Bigfork High School parking lot on Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The money will be used to help Habitat For Humanity build a house in Whitefish.

Columbia Falls High School will host the Cross Country Cruise on Saturday, July 31, starting at 8:30 a.m. with a 6K race through Columbia Falls parks and neighborhoods. A one-mile children’s and community run will be held following the race. For more information, call Richard Menicke at 863-9630.

The Violence Free Crisis Line will hold its second Blu’s Burger Benefit and Ice Cream Social at ShowThyme restaurant in Bigfork on Aug. 1 from 3-6 p.m. to benefit The Abbie shelter. The family event includes original gourmet hamburgers and fixings as well as several different flavors of ice cream created by chef Blu Funk, as well as music and silent and live auctions. The  fourth annual Foy’s to Herron Paddlethon race will take place on Sunday, Aug. 2, with a 3-mile canoe or kayak on Foy’s Lake, a 5-mile mountain bike in Herron Park, and a 4-mile trail run. The mountain bike course will take place on trails recently completed this spring, with gentler grades and fun single track. The race is a fundraiser for the Foys To Blacktail trails group. Family teams are encouraged to enter. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $15 individuals, $28 teams of two, or $40 for teams of three.
