Curry, Skees and Holmquist are winners

Former undersheriff Chuck Curry will become the new Flathead County sheriff. He defeated the incumbent in the Republican primary on Tuesday by tallying 46 percent of the ballots. No Democrats ran for sheriff in the primary.

In Whitefish’s House District 4 race, Derek Skees won the Republican primary, winning 48 percent of the vote. He will face Will Hammerquist in the November general election, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Pam Holmquist won the Repub-lican primary for county commissioner, tallying 44 percent of the vote in a three-way race. She will face the incumbent, Joe Brenneman, in the fall. Brenneman won the Democratic primary with 71 percent of the vote.

The top two candidates in the race for the new District Court judge position will advance to the fall election. David Ortley garnered 42 percent of the votes, and Heidi Ulbricht had 25 percent.

The top two candidates in the Justice of the Peace Dept. 2 race will also advance to the fall election. Incumbent Mark Sullivan had 31 percent and Travis Bruyer had 23.

About 28 percent of the county’s 58,584 voters cast ballots. Of the ballots cast, more than 80 percent were Republican.
