The artwork of John Fery will be on display at the Hockaday Museum of Art from June 15 through Sept. 18, with an opening reception Thursday, June 17, from 5-7 p.m. Fery studied in Europe at Dusseldorf Academy in Germany. His first experience with America was bringing European nobility on hunting trips through the Northwest in 1892-1893 He painted the landscape of the American West during these trips. Fery made an important contribution in the creation of Glacier National Park through his work. He was commissioned by the Great Northern Railroad to paint the scenery along its route and in the Park to attract people to the area. John B. Fery will speak about his grandfather at 6 p.m. Admission is free for Hockaday members and $10 for adults.

Alpine Theatre Project will present “Barrymore” at the Whitefish Middle School auditorium on June 17-25 at 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Hollywood’s original bad boy comes to life on stage in a play by William Luce and starring David Ackroyd. John Barrymore was considered the greatest actor of his generation in the 1920s after his famous portrayals in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and “Richard III.” But after moving to Hollywood to begin an active film career, Barrymore became more known for his off-screen antics and hard living than for his acting prowess. The Whitefish Chamber of Commerce’s Gone Fishin’ social will take place at Stumptown Art Studio on Thursday, June 17, from 5-7 p.m. as the studio celebrates its 15th year. The Whitefish Convention and Visitors Bureau will hold their regular meeting at the Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge on Friday, June 18, at 3 p.m. with presentations from Montana Office of Tourism marketing manager Katy Peterson and branding manager Pam Gosink. Saturday

Montana Raft Co. will host their 14th annual Rafting for Refuse Day on Saturday, June 19, to clean up trash at public river access points on the North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River. All equipment, guides and van support for rafting will be provided. Volunteers should bring work gloves and a water bottle. Meet at Montana Raft Co. on U.S. Highway 2 in West Glacier at 9:30 a.m. and return by 1-3 p.m. for volleyball and a complimentary barbecue. The Mountain Mall will hold a free kids fishing derby at the Mountain Mall Pond on Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is sponsored by Sportsman & Ski Haus, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Mountain Mall. Fishing gear will be available for those who don’t have any, and a Big Fish Contest will be held for kids 12-and-under.

A pet food drive for the AniMeals non-profit animal food bank will take place at Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply in Kalispell on Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dog, cat, puppy and kitten food and financial donations are appreciated. Donations will be distributed to needy organizations and individuals caring for animals, including animal shelters, rescue groups and food banks.

Snappy’s Sports Senter in Kalispell will present “Camping Day” on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The 30th annual Bulldog Open 4-person scramble golf tournament will be played on Sunday, June 20, Father’s Day, at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course. This annual fundraiser supports the local junior golf program. This year, we will once again offer a new car from DePratu Ford — a VW Audi as a prize for a hole in one. A Harley Davidson motorcycle will also be awarded to the lucky winner of the putting contest sponsored by Hub International Insurance and PiggyBack BBQ. The $60 entry fee includes chances at flight prizes, special prizes on the course and as part of the evening drawings. The Bulldog Open also features a luncheon and an evening barbecue for all entrants, which is likewise part of the entry fee. The Montana House and Glacier National Park Fund will host a talk by Dave Shea, a long-time backcountry ranger and wildlife and botanical technician with Glacier National Park, at the Montana House in Apgar Village on Sunday, June 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. Shea will sign copies of his book, “Chief Mountain, Home of the Thunderbird.” Shea spent 36 seasons in Glacier Park, 11 at the Belly River Ranger Station with his wife Genevieve, at times literally living in the shadow of Chief Mountain.
