Basketball was talk of the town
Letter from the editor
Bigfork was buzzing with basketball talk last week. It wasn't just the students and their parents excited for the possibilities, but the whole Village seemed to have caught Viking fever.
I had people without students in the school system, people who moved here to retire or who were just visiting ask about Bigfork High School's Vikes and Vals last week – the District 7B Champions. They wanted to know the odds the teams had going into the Western B Divisional Tournament and what had changed.
It's been a long time since both teams made it this far in the same year. So long, in fact, that no one can agree when the last time was that the boys basketball team brought home district or divisional hardware or when both teams achieved so much.
Even though the divisional tournament didn't quite go as hoped, Bigfork still has a lot to be proud of. The Vals will be off to Belgrade soon to represent Bigfork at the state tournament.
Though the Vikes won't be joining them, the boys came a long way from where they had been in the past and their futures look bright.
Both the Vikings football and basketball teams this school year have been reformed from a history of losses to a tradition of winning and confidence.
And it's because of that change in attitude and heart that we should still call them champions.
