The Columbia Falls tennis squads handily defeated Ronan for the second time in a week, 6-1, 6-1.

In boys' No. 1 singles Vadim Zvygelskiy came back to beat Austin Butler, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.

In girls' No. 1 singles Gabrielle Stenger dispatched Katelyn Matkovich, 6-3, 6-1.

Boys' coach Gary Yee said he was pleased with the improvement in play from Tim Spencer and Jon Riffey in doubles.

"They were crisp and took to the net when they needed to," Yee said.

Girls' coach Jerry Smalley said he's seeing improvement as well.

"Tami Kolatschek played her usual steady game. Elena Potter also continues to improve with every match," he said. "In doubles, Shay Grilley and Krystal Bedford are gaining more confidence every time they step on the court."

The teams had a host of matches scheduled, but the weather had other plans. An April 27 meet against Glacier was rained out and a Polson match for May 4 was rained out as well. Monday's match against Eureka was also rained out.

This week the girls are scheduled to travel to Whitefish and the boys face the Bulldogs at home at 3:30 p.m Thursday (today). On Friday the teams travel to Polson and then Monday, May 10, the boys are scheduled to play Bigfork and Tuesday, May 11, both teams are scheduled to make up a match against Whitefish that was rained out earlier this year. The girls are at home, the boys away for that match.
