CARE conflict

The Flathead Valley is fortunate to have two CARE programs. One is based in Kalispell and serves Kalispell, Bigfork and Columbia Falls school districts. The other is Whitefish CARE, which has been in existence since the early 1990s and serves Whitefish School District.

Both programs have lost their federal funding this year and are scrambling, like every other nonprofit, to raise money and continue to serve our communities.

Flathead CARE is sponsoring concerts as one of their fundraisers. Their concert is being promoted in Whitefish for Sept. 8, the same day as the Whitefish Back to School Bash, a fundraiser for Whitefish CARE. The promoters for the concert have not been accurate in their phone calls to the Whitefish community and are telling folks that the money raised from the Whitefish concert is being contributed to Whitefish CARE. There is no money being contributed to Whitefish CARE from this concert. Let me repeat this, no money from these concerts is being donated to Whitefish CARE.

Buy a ticket to the concert — just know where your money is going. Both CARE programs are integral in their communities and work together on many levels. The problem exists with the promoter of the concert and not the Flathead CARE board or its director. Please feel free to contact me at the Whitefish School District, 862-8600.
