Volleyball squad 'full of energy'
The Lady Bulldogs' volleyball squad is bouncing off the walls with excitement. In fact, Whitefish coach Jackie Fuller has never seen a team so ready to start a season.
"They're full of energy," Fuller said. "They're positive and are working so hard. I think their enthusiasm and excitement will carry them this season and I'm really excited about that."
Whitefish got to release some of that energy Saturday at the annual Starter Volleyball tourney, hosted by the Lady 'Dogs.
They split three of their matches and were topped by Ronan in the round-robin event. Yet, it's not results in the Starter that matter, Fuller said, it's about evaluating players and making adjustments.
The coach noted the team is young, but that three returning seniors will bring a great deal of leadership and confidence to the squad. The seniors are Madison Tveidt, Olivia Nagler and Heather Bailey.
Tveidt and Bailey will be looked to as the go-to scorers this year.
"They have to step up and get it done for us," Fuller said.
Fuller said blocking is a weakness now and the team needs to be more aggressive on defense.
Whitefish opens conference play today with a tough match against Polson.
"That's a loaded ball club with a lot of talent," Fuller said. "We have to make sure we stay with them."
The match is slated for Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
