Broncs get the better of Cats
The game started out in Columbia Falls' favor. But after that, it was all Hamilton as the Columbia Falls football team lost 17-6 to the Broncs last Friday.
The Cats scored first on a 77-yard run by Nate Thompson in the first quarter to make it 6-0. The extra point failed. But then the Broncs scored 17 unanswered points in the first half and the Cats never could answer.
The Broncs first score came on a Josh Brenneman toss to wide receiver Beau Maus to tie the game. The Broncs then tacked on the extra point to make it 7-6.
The Broncs then added another touchdown on a four-yard run from Cody Noffsinger to make it 14-6.
They added a field goal with about 6 minutes left in the first half to make it 17-6.
In the second half, the Cats had some nice drives, but they stalled in the red zone. They also tightened up their defense and held the Broncs scoreless. The Cats also did a much better job with turnovers. The week before against Stevensville they had 10. Against Hamilton they had two and one was on an Austin Barth deep pass in the first quarter.
Thompson continues to pile on the yardage for the Cats. He had 229 yards against the Broncs — his second 200-plus yard game.
The boys play Browning tonight (Thursday) at home. Gametime is 7 p.m. The Cats scheduled a Thursday night game because they weren't sure there would be enough referees available for a Friday night matchup.
