Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will open its fall season with “Holes in the Wall,” an original play by Cohen Ambrose, a graduate of Flathead High School and FVCC. His recent travels and studies in Prague inspired a tricky love story and comedic and cultural observation centering around three sets of characters, a hotel room in Seattle, a lounge act in Vegas, and a couple of gunshot holes leading from one room to the next. Productions are scheduled for Sept. 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 students and seniors, available online at www.fvcc.edu, in advance at the FVCC Bookstore, or before the performance at the FVCC Theatre box office. The Boomers Singles Group will hold its September meeting and street dance, spaghetti feed at Village Greens Community Center, in Kalispell, on Friday, Sept. 17, with social hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing to music by Andre Floyd at 8:15 p.m. RSVP by Sept. 13 to Melody at 253-9249. The Don Lawrence Orchestra and the Feat by Feet tap dance company will join Irish Minstrels, Heart of the Rivers Children’s Choir and the Columbia Falls High School’s percussion ensemble for a benefit concert at the Whitefish Middle School auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The concert is a fundraiser for Orphans Lifeline of Hope International, a local nonprofit charity that aids children in the U.S. and nine countries. The Flathead Democratic Party will host its 2010 Harvest Dinner at the County Fairgrounds Expo Building on Saturday, Sept. 18, beginning at 5 p.m. Special guest speaker will be Missoula journalist George Ochenski. The Whitefish Theatre Co. will hold auditions for its Black Curtain production “The Secret Garden” on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. The Black Curtain staged-reading series will include “Opus” by Michael Hollinger, on Oct. 23-24; “Mary’s Wedding,” by Stephen Massicotte, on Jan. 29-30; and “Reasons to be pretty,” by Neil LaBute, on March 12-13. “The Secret Garden,” by Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, a musical version of the children’s classic by Frances Hodgson Barnett, will run Dec. 2-19.
